Hold Shift and right-click the Cargo Elephant to acess its Inventory).

A Cargo Elephant will follow the player and fight along his side, he can be a powerful ally even being slow. You can use a Lead to station it.
To Release a tamed Cargo Elephant to the wild again (or to breed it), right-click it with a Shears. (Remove your cargo first!)
